About Us

The Beginning

The first episode of Doctor Who "An Unearthly Child" screened on BBC TV on 23 November 1963

The first episode "An Unearthly Child" of Doctor Who screened on BBC TV on 23 September 1963, with William Hartnell playing the First Doctor.

The Daleks were created by Terry Nation and designed by BBC  designer Raymond Cusick. They were introduced in December 1963 in the second Doctor Who serial, known as The Daleks.

Since that first appearance of The Daleks, fans have been building Daleks of their own.

How We Build Daleks

Members building a fiberglass shoulder from a mould.

Using measurements taken from original props, CGI models or from reference photographs, detailed plans are created and downloaded from projectdalek.co.uk. From these plans, a Dalek is built using readily available materials. A more advanced building technique, is to then make fiberglass moulds and fiberglass Daleks from these moulds.

Becoming a Member of the ADBU gives you access to our build days and moulds, so you can with our help, make your own Daleks and help us  show them off to Australian Doctor Who and Dalek  fans at conventions.

What We Do With Them

Daleks on display at a convention

Our Daleks are used for display at conventions around Australia. Regular displays at OzComicCon, Supanova, AVCON and Science Alive events in Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Melbourne , Whyalla and Mt Gambier happen throughout the year. We use our daleks to raise money for charities such as Hummingbird House in Brisbane ,  The Australian Childhood Foundation and for Crohn's  and Colitis Australia.
